Nash Bash headed to Vancouver

Steve Nash’s popular celebrity soccer match that has been held in New York City for the past two years is coming to Vancouver this fall.

Nash’s Showdown in Downtown is a free eight-aside charity soccer game that will be held Sept. 19 in Yaletown’s David Lam Park.

A similar event, Nash’s Showdown in Chinatown in New York City, has attracted the likes of soccer great Thierry Henry (Barcelona) and a number of NBA stars including Toronto Raptor Chris Bosh.

The event and who will be taking part will be announced at the end of next week.

Monday night, Vancouver’s park board is voting on whether or not to grant permission for a 250-person beer garden at the site.

Randy Clegg, marketing director for the Vancouver event, said the match will pay for itself through sponsorships and will raise funds for Nash’s foundation through donations and a celebrity after-party.
