From May 11 to the 17, nurses around the country will be uniting in celebration of National Nursing Week, with hopes of highlighting their presence in Canada’s public health system.
“It’s a week to showcase to the public, the government and the policymakers our contribution to the well-being of this country,” says Kaaren Neufeld, president of the Canadian Nurses Association. “It is a time for nurses across the coast to collectively reflect and to think about the diversity of care we bring to Canadians.”
Neufeld says that this year’s theme, Nursing: You Can’t Live Without It!, is all about recognizing the essential impact nurses have on their communities.
“All throughout your lives, nurses are there helping with wellness and illness, managing chronic disease and doing health education. They are central to operationalizing all of those plans,” she says.
