Medical tests conducted on Phoenix, a severely neglected male chow that was found abandoned last Sunday, have come back showing he has treatable cancer.
There was overwhelming outrage after Phoenix, as he’s been named by cruelty investigator Debby Houghton, was found abandoned in the backyard of a home near Rundle Road and Bloor Street in Clarington, east of Oshawa.
The blond animal was emaciated when he was found and its face and legs were covered in blood from open sores; its nails were severely overgrown.
There were fears the four- to five-year-old chow would die, but doctors think he will respond well to medical treatment.
The Humane Society of Durham is accepting donations for his medical bills.
