A man who was travelling to Newfoundland to allegedly kill police officers now faces four new charges of threatening to cause death to people — three police officers and a guard at the police holding cell in Stephenville, N.L.
Mark Baltzer was ordered to undergo a seven-day mental fitness test at the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s in Stephenville provincial court on Thursday.
The 53-year-old Kings County, N.S., man was arrested on the Trans-Canada Highway near St. George’s on Sunday.
RCMP reported receiving a tip from Marine Atlantic staff that a man was on the ferry with firearms and weapons en route to the Corner Brook area to kill police officers.
Baltzer now has a total of 20 charges laid against him.
