Google yesterday launched a new website aimed at telling Internet users how to dress more stylishly.
The new website, Boutiques.com, reportedly uses algorithms to establish personal shopping and style preferences, allowing it, over time, to predict and suggest what looks best suit the user.
In a blog posting, Google said: “Boutiques uses computer-vision and machine-learning technology to visually analyze your taste and match it to items you would like.”
The site includes items worn by celebrities. Users are allowed to choose which items they like — or dislike.
Using that data, and applying fashion and dress sense rules — for example, “heavily patterned handbags don’t tend to go with heavily patterned dresses” — the site builds up a personal style profile.
Celebrity profiles on the site include the Olsen twins Ashley and Mary-Kate, Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne, as well as featuring stars from movies such as “Wall Street.”
