Building designed to make travelling more pleasurable
The world’s busiest international airport, Heathrow, increases its capacity for travellers this month with a $8.4-billion new terminal. Terminal 5, which will serve British Airways only, will greet its first passengers off a flight from Hong Kong on March 27.
The brand new terminal will host more than 40,000 passengers each day, and is the biggest free-standing building in the UK.
It will feature high-end shops and restaurants, including Prada, Tiffany & Co, Kurt Geiger, Mulberry and Paul Smith as well as the first airport restaurant from British celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay, Plane Food.
Meanwhile, London emporium Harrods will open the world’s first airport fashion department store. The store will be dedicated to fashion and accessories and includes a “luxury travel” concept, a denim bar, personal shopping service and a beachwear and accessories section known as “Cruise.” Men’s and women’s ready to wear collections include Issa, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Zegna and Turnbull & Asser.
The building has been designed to make travelling more pleasurable — even the lighting inside the terminal building can be programmed to different settings according to season, time of day and weather conditions.
