New parking spots added at YYC

There will be fewer parking woes at the Calgary International Airport as the YYC opened a new parkade adding 1,930 new stalls.

The on-site, seven-level covered parkade will bolster the current number of stalls to 7,480 and is the final phase of the Parking Made Easy initiative, according to the Airport Authority.

“Parking at the airport is far more convenient now, and there is a wide variety to choose from. We have a spot for everyone,” Airport Authority VP Bob Schmitt said.

Schmitt admitted there have been problems in the past with some travellers having a hard time finding parking, but he says that won’t happen anymore.

“Travellers won’t need to feel the stress of trying to find a spot anymore and we have spots for people now and well into the future.”

As a part of the initiative, weekly parking has been reduced from $99 to $49.95, “just in time for the cold season,” Schmitt added.

Ald. Gord Lowe said it was critical for the parking spots to be added to the third busiest airport in the country.

“It’s very important for Calgarians, it’s very important for the airport and it’s very important for the city,” he said.
