Newcomers have nice weekend for Rainmen in Saint John

Newcomers Kavon Jones and Josh Dollard made a good first impression for the Halifax Rainmen on the weekend.

Jones, a six-foot-seven forward, and Dollard, a six-foot-eight forward, scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, in Friday’s 106-96 victory over the Saint John Mill Rats in New Brunswick.

Both are among the nine players under contract for 2011.

“Kavon did some really good things for us off the bench — he’s a kid who’s going to cause some mismatches because he’s so skilled for a big guy,” said Rainmen owner Andre Levingston. “Josh played really tough. He’s going to be a problem (for other teams) on the boards.”

The Rainmen play their first game at the Metro Centre in eight months when they host the Mill Rats in a pre-season tilt on Thursday at 7 p.m. There are no tickets remaining.
