News vet joins Clark’s campaign

Liberal leadership candidate Christy Clark is turning to a familiar face to recruit supporters.

Liberal leadership candidate Christy Clark is turning to a familiar face to recruit supporters.

Longtime news anchor Pamela Martin has thrown her support behind Clark and will be in charge of recruiting volunteers and new Liberal members to back Clark.

“It’s really different to be on this side of the microphone,” admitted Martin. “It’s the perfect opportunity for me to be a part of the political process. It’s time to have a woman as premier.”

Martin wasn’t shy about flashing her brand-spanking-new Liberal membership around and the Clark camp is counting on similar political newbies to bolster her ranks.

“We want to encourage people to join a political party, this political party, many of them for the first time,” said Clark. “This campaign is really about bringing a fresh perspective.”

Simon Fraser University marketing expert Lindsay Meredith thinks the outsider route may pay off.

“All the incumbents have blood up to their elbows for the HST,” said Meredith. “She’s a very
serious threat who has upset the apple cart.”
