EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, cornerback Corey Webster and linebacker Jacquian Williams missed their second straight day of practice as the New York Giants kept preparing for the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
Williams might be the Giants’ biggest concern among those players for the Feb. 5 game in Indianapolis. He wore a walking cast on his right foot on Friday.
The rookie isn’t sure when he was injured in the NFC title game against San Francisco, but there is a lot of soreness.
“Right now, I am just resting,” Williams said. “In a couple of days, I’ll be running. It’s 100 per cent I’ll test it in Indy. I won’t miss this; it’s such a big opportunity for me, for the team. I’ll definitely practice next week.”
Nicks said he fell directly on the AC joint in his shoulder, aggravating an injury he has dealt with all season.
“I expect to be full go,” Nicks said of next week. “I am going to use the next couple of days to get it back right.”
Webster has had his hamstring injury for weeks and has not missed a game.
Backup cornerback and punt returner Will Blackmon also missed his second straight practice with a knee injury. Cornerback Aaron Ross returned punts most of the season and he probably will handle that in the Super Bowl if Blackmon can’t go because of the injury he also sustained against the 49ers.
Centre David Baas (abdomen-neck), linebacker Chase Blackburn (calf) and running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) practised on a limited basis Friday after missing the day before.
Defensive end Osi Umenyiora (knee-ankle) also was limited but he has been that way most of the season.
