Nine busted after drug investigation

Nine people aged 32 to 53 were arrested and a large quantity of drugs, weapons and ingredients used to make drugs have been seized after a year-long RCMP investigation.

Mounties displayed the goods at RCMP headquarters in Vancouver yesterday, including $250,000 in cash, horse tranquilizers and weapons armed with bayonets.

Staff Sgt. David Goddard said the seizure of the drug making-ingredients was important.

“We collected enough evidence that we are going to attempt to report to court (that) the intent of having these chemicals was to make the final product (drugs),” Goddard said.

B.C. Solicitor General Kash Heed called the drug bust “significant.”

“The government of B.C. will continue to press the federal government for tougher regulations on materials to make illicit drugs that imperil our children,” Heed said.

Goddard added the potentially poisonous drug-making ingredients will be properly disposed of.

”Instead of this going into a landfill, we will now destroy this as per the instructions from Health Canada.”
