Nine people pulled from Bow River after boats become entangled

Nine people were pulled to safety after their boats - tied together - got lodged under the Louise Bridge Monday afternoon.

Nine people were pulled from the Bow River after four boats tied together became entangled under the Louise Bridge Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

Fire department aquatic team was called shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, to reports that the boats had become lodged under the bridge and had tossed nine people into the fast moving water, fire officials said.

Stranded boaters were pulled into the fire department's rescue jet boat and ferried back to the river's edge. Four trips were made by the boat to secure all of the passengers.

According to fire officials, the boaters were cold and a 'little scared', but there were no apparent injuries.

The Department would like to remind rafters of the dangers of tying rafts together. Rafts cannot be controlled when strapped together, they said. It also canbecome a tangle hazard which whencombined with the speed of the current can trap rafters under water.
