The Crown Attorney’s Office won’t be able to appeal the acquittal of a former Prince Edward Island Rocket player on an assault charge.

Chris Doyle was found not guilty in April of an alleged assault stemming from an incident at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on Sept. 25, 2009.

During his trial Doyle testified he didn’t know the alleged victim was standing behind a door he hit with his fist, which drove the door back into her and broke her nose.
