No charges will be laid after Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger received threats related to a highly charged debate over the location of a new stadium.

The matter was turned over to police, who say they have spoken to the individuals in question and determined there was no criminal intent to harm the mayor.

Police say the mayor requested that no charges be laid in what local media said were death threats.

On Aug. 11, Hamilton city council voted to build a new stadium at a downtown location, over an East Mountain site favoured by the CFL’s Tiger-Cats.
