No natural gas rebates to be issued in March

Don’t expect any breaks when it comes to paying the heating bill.

For the second month in a row, Alberta’s government will not be offering up natural gas rebates because of low natural gas prices.

All three regulated gas companies in the province have charged rates below $4.75 per gigajoule this month.

The rebates kick in when two of the three regulated companies charge rates above $5.50 per gigajoule.

Alberta’s natural gas rebate program runs from October to March for most customers at a time when households use roughly 80 per cent of the total natural gas consumed for the year.

The program has given roughly $1.9 billion in rebates to Alberta households since 2003.
