Nova Scotia Justice Minister Ross Landry, left, says the creation of a new provincial police force is not on his government’s current agenda. Landry said the province is presently negotiating with the RCMP to renew their contract to continue to serve as the provincial police force in 2012. The Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association in 2008 was advocating significant changes to policing in Nova Scotia that could possibly lead some day to the formation of a provincial police force, according to news reports.
