Nobody hurt as shots fired in Uniacke Square

Halifax Regional Police want to speak with a man they say was seen in the vicinity of where up to eight bullets were fired at a home in Uniacke Square early yesterday morning.

Police responded to a home on Divas Lane between Gottingen and Brunswick streets at 3:45 a.m. after a report of shots being fired came in from someone in the area. Two women were inside the home when police believe between five to eight bullets were fired toward the home. Neither person inside was injured.

“What we know is somebody called in saying they heard multiple gun shots and they observed someone they felt was male and wearing all dark clothing … running kind of away from the area,” police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said. “At this point, we don’t know if that person is involved in this incident or if they heard the shots and were fleeing themselves.

“Certainly, we’d like to talk to that person.”

Palmeter said police spoke with the people inside the home “and neither person could give any reason why they might be targeted.”

“So one of the things we’ll be trying to figure out is who in fact was the target and if we can try and determine a motive for it,” he added.

Police investigators spent several hours at the scene yesterday recovering bullet fragments. Holes were found through a window and the interior of the residence.

Palmeter couldn’t say what kind of gun was used in the shooting.
