Non-fans ‘hide’ from maddening crowds

Anti-Grey Cup Not everyone is a football fan — at least not CFL football — and some Calgarians came up with creative ways avoid the festivities.

Football fan Carol Asincee celebrated the Grey Cup by watching the American version of the game on TV.

“I’d rather watch real football. I think the American game is a lot more interesting and I think the CFL is a boring game to watch,” she said from her home while watching the NFL’s Sunday slate of games.

Another Calgarian, Derek Hill, wanted to get out of the house and out of the city to avoid the “craziness” — so he trekked to the mountains to snowboard.

“I haven’t been out yet and I thought what better day than Grey Cup day,” he said.

But perhaps the most unique alternative to the watching the game would be Meshell Checkley’s method.

“I’m PVR’ing the thing because I have a group of women who have come together to do a passion party and leave the football to the men and football fans,” she said.

“It’s been a lot of fun. I love football but this is a lot of fun, too.”
