Norquest’s printing centre gets grant

Small and medium-sized print companies across western Canada will have access to state of the art printing technology after the federal government announced a $896,750 investment in Norquest College’s Centre for Excellence in Print Media.

At a media conference yesterday, Minister for Western Economic Diversification Lynne Yelich announced the grant, which will be used by the college to upgrade its existing equipment and software to its new Job Definition Format, an international workflow standard in the industry.

A collaboration between Norquest and the Federal government, the grant will help the print industry in western Canada to stay competitive.

The industry itself is the fourth-largest employer in Canada, and is facing challenges such as changing technologies and stiff competition.

Faced with these challenges, Yelich hopes that the money from the grant will help the industry continue to grow.

“The print industry is a major job creator in our communities,” said Yelich.
