North Shore lots eyed for Olympic parking

A couple of North Shore communities will be supplying parking lots for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver agreed to offer parking for motor coaches and buses that will transport Olympic visitors up to Cypress Mountain and Whistler.

A parking lot near Centennial Theatre and a lot at Inter-River Park will be used by VANOC.

In return, the areas been added to VANOC’s Community Contributor Program and will receive media and advertising support, a torch relay event, and visits from the 2010 mascots.

“We’re pretty pleased with the agreement and we’re pretty excited … about the Olympics,” said Roger Bassam, District of North Vancouver councillor and acting mayor.
