NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. - The Olympic torch relay has kicked off in Nova Scotia.

A handful of people lined up in North Sydney to watch the first runners go by shortly after 8 a.m. when the flame arrived by ferry from Newfoundland.

More than 100 people will carry the torch across Cape Breton Island beginning in the Sydney area and winding up in Port Hawkesbury tonight.

The flame will cross the Canso causeway Tuesday morning and continue on to Halifax.
