REGINA - The union representing almost 9,000 registered nurses in Saskatchewan is ramping up an ad campaign ahead of contract talks.

The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses has released a multi-media campaign it says will highlight how registered nurses make a difference.

Union president Rosalee Longmoore says nurses improve patient outcomes, reduced mortality and improve treatment.

The union says Saskatchewan could soon lose 2,000 registered nurses due to retirements.

The union and regional health authorities have been meeting to hammer out a list of what jobs would be considered essential services.

Under provincial legislation, that has to begin 90 days before the current contract expires and before new talks start.
