Mayor Larry O’Brien should fire the head of Transit, Mr. Mercier. Then resign.
They’ve been penny-wise and pound disastrous for Ottawa. In order to save $3.4 million, they have cost residents and local businesses many times that — and for what? To try to take away from bus drivers the scheduling choices we now learn are not unlike those in other Canadian cities.
Then the O’Brien-Mercier duo claimed it was all for drivers’ safety and not for the money.
In the process, these two have managed to display their utter disregard, not only for the working lives of their own transit employees, but for the personal catastrophes foisted upon the working poor, the elderly and students, as well as downtown small business owners.
