O-Train meets million-kilometre milestone

One of OC Transpo’s O-Trains has now travelled more than one million kilometres, the city said over the weekend.

OC Transpo says the odometer clicked past a million kilometers – a distance equivalent to circling the globe 25 times – Friday morning.

A second O-Train is expected to reach the same milestone in the coming weeks.

The O-Train carried its first passengers on Oct. 15, 2001. With seating for 135 and room for 150 standing passengers, the initial ridership target of the O-Train pilot project was between 5,100 and 6,400 customer trips per day. Ridership has now reached more than 10,000 customer trips per day.

The city anticipates recognizing its 10 millionth rider in 2011.
