Obama meets with rich givers

President Barack Obama met with Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates yesterday at the White House to discuss the economy and the billionaires’ philanthropic endeavors, an administration official said.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama met with Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates yesterday at the White House to discuss the economy and the billionaires’ philanthropic endeavors, an administration official said.

Obama called for the Oval Office meeting to discuss the Giving Pledge project, started by Buffett and Gates to encourage wealthy U.S. individuals and families to give most of their fortunes to charity, the administration official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The meeting with Gates and Buffett comes on the eve of Obama’s summit with about 20 business leaders to discuss issues related to economic growth including exports, regulation and the budget deficit.
