An off-duty police officer, his wife, daughter and granddaughter were all killed in a crash Friday night on a southern Alberta highway.
Late Saturday, police in Lethbridge announced that Const. Sheldon Twigg, 46, his wife, Kim Twigg, 40, daughter Lacey Twigg, 21, and three-year-old Brielle Twigg all died on Highway 509 north of Standoff.
“This is a tragic loss for our police service and a devastating loss for the Twigg family,” said Lethbridge police Chief Tom McKenzie in a news release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Twigg family.”
RCMP say the four were in a Ford Taurus they think collided head-on with a Dodge pickup.
A 55-year-old man from Standoff was the only person in the pickup, and he remains in critical condition in a Calgary hospital.
Police are still investigating, but say they do not believe alcohol was a factor.
