Officer hurt after diplomat leads police on car chase

Ottawa police officer was injured following a pursuit on Bank Street early Tuesday morning.
At 12:45 a.m., police received a report of an erratic driver on Colonel By Drive.

Officers located an SUV on Bank Street that failed to stop for officers. A short pursuit ensued and ended when the SUV collided head on with a police cruiser at the intersection of Bank Street and Heron Road, police said.

An Ottawa police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital and later released.

A 30-year-old male was taken into custody but has been released in the care of embassy officials, as he is a person with diplomatic status, police said. The male was not injured.

Police said yesterday they will work with the Crown attorney’s office and Department of Foreign Affairs to pursue appropriate charges.
