LONDON. It’s official — the chicken did apparently come before the egg. UK researchers found that eggs can only be formed through the presence of a protein found in chickens’ ovaries.


Scientists from Sheffield and Warwick universities used a super computer to zoom in on the formation of an egg and realized the protein – labeled ovocledidin-17 (OC-17) – is vital in kick-starting the crystallization process.
