Officials had to use a helicopter to put out a fire in HRM yesterday afternoon when firefighters couldn’t reach it by foot.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service first received reports around midday of smoke coming from woods between Old Sambro and Herring Cove roads. But they couldn’t get close enough to fight the fire.
Instead, a Department of Natural Resources helicopter was called in and by about 2 p.m. the fire had been extinguished.
In total, the fire spread across about one acre of forest. There were no homes nearby under threat and no one was hurt.
