More than 24 hours after two women died in an intense Scarborough fire, officials still don’t know the identities of the victims or the cause of the blaze.

The two-alarm fire ripped through 41 Kimbermount Dr. late Saturday morning, killing two women and sending a young man to hospital with severe burns.

“It’s possible that some or all three of the young adults are international students from mainland China,” said Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko. “But as far as I know, that hasn’t been confirmed.”

At least 50 firefighters and 12 trucks responded to the two-alarm blaze, which gutted the house, Strapko said.

Police and fire officials were on scene again yesterday and the area surrounding the home remained cordoned off with police tape.

“The investigation is still ongoing. I believe the post-mortem is scheduled for (today),” Strapko said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 416-222-TIPS.
