OHS seeks homes for hundreds of cats

They call it the dog days of summer, but the Ottawa Humane Society is currently inundated with cats.

Cats are brought into the shelter daily, either surrendered by the owners or as strays.

Cages line nearly every hallway at the Champagne Avenue shelter. Many cats are housed in smaller rabbit cages because there is simply no other option, shelter staff said.

While the shelter has hundreds of cats looking for new homes, there are even more cats at OHS pet store adoption locations.

There are so many animals for adoption, not all of them could be profiled on the shelter’s website at www.ottawahumane.ca.

Summer is a good time to adopt a new pet, as more members of the family tend to be around to help the animal become acclimatized, staff said.
