Oilers’ top picks put through paces

With a new season approaching, the Edmonton Oilers began their 2010 Development Camp at Clareview Arena yesterday.

The arena will host all the Oilers’ top prospects, including top picks Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, and Taylor Hall.

Swedish draftee Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson is one of the top young picks at camp, and says that everyone is working hard as a team to make the cut.

“On the ice … you almost speak the same ‘hockey language,’” said Paajarvi-Svensson. “We got a few days here, I hope we can all make good of it and develop as people and as players.”

Longtime Oilers fan Jeff Sawalha says that the new prospects give hope for the future.

“I think this is great for the city,” said Sawalha. “There’s a certain buzz in the arena, and everyone’s excited to get the season going … I don’t expect them to blow any teams out of the water, right now they just need to give the new guys time to develop.”
