Mechanical problems have prompted skating restrictions at Olympic Plaza.
The ice plant has been shut down, meaning that the ice is subject to weather conditions and will be treated as an outdoor rink.
Skating will only be allowed when ice quality is appropriate, and the City of Calgary Parks will attempt to keep the ice open daily during the noon-hour and evening, which are the most popular times.
When the ambient temperature is too high, thermal blankets will cover the ice in an attempt to keep it open for the remainder of the season, which generally ends in mid-March.
Signs will be posted warning the public when the rink is closed for protection.
