Dartmouth’s Andrew Russell took another step toward a medal at the world sprint canoe-kayak championships in Poznan, Poland, on Thursday.

Russell, a 2008 Summer Olympian, and his partner Gabriel Beauchesne-Sevigny of Trois-Rivieres, Que., were second in the C-2 1,000-metre semifinal to advance to Saturday’s final.

“Andrew and Gabriel appeared in great form and had a great challenge in their semifinal,” said Canada’s high-performance director Graham Barton. “With a day off (Friday) they should be ready to give everything (they’ve) got on race day.”
