Only half of Atlantic farmers upbeat about the future

With the economic challenges currently facing the farming industry, only about half of Atlantic Canada’s producers remain optimistic about the future of agriculture in Canada.

A recent survey conducted by the Farm Credit Canada Vision Panel included viewpoints of more than 4,300 industry members across the nation and concluded overall about 54 per cent are optimistic, while in Atlantic Canada only 50 per cent share that opinion.

“I think that reflects fairly well,” said John Vissers, a dairy farmer from the Stewiacke area.

“The feeling of optimism was a little more strong out west than in Atlantic Canada.”
