TORONTO - A Toronto-area doctor disciplined twice for sexual impropriety has now lost his medical licence for carrying on a sexual relationship with one of his patients.

Dr. Larry Scott Henderson, 60, lost his registration as of Wednesday after a disciplinary board found that the doctor-patient relationship he had with one woman included sexual intercourse.

A College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario spokeswoman says the Whitby, Ont., doctor must wait five years to apply to have his licence reinstated, and would have to satisfy the college there would be no repeat of his actions.

In July, a disciplinary hearing made a finding of professional misconduct against Henderson for engaging in the "sexual abuse of a patient." The college dropped an additional allegation of misconduct for having contact with the patient after the complaint was made.

Although the relationship was consensual it still represents sexual abuse under the college's rules.

Henderson had been disciplined by the college on two separate occasions for "disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct."

In 2004, Henderson received a three-month suspension after it was revealed he had a romantic relationship with a former patient who he had under his care between 1990 and 1995.

He promised to take a course on maintaining boundaries with patients.

The following year he faced another hearing after making remarks of a "sexual nature" to a patient in 1984, and kissing the woman and fondling her breasts in an examination room between 1991 and 1994.

The latest finding, that Henderson had sexual intercourse with a woman, is "obviously a very serious finding," said college spokeswoman Kathryn Clarke.

"Where sexual abuse of a patient includes intercourse, it carries a mandatory penalty of revocation."

In addition to losing his licence, Henderson must pay $13,130 to cover for therapy for the victim and a fine of $10,950 to the college, which regulates doctors.

A woman who answered the phone at the Whitby doctor's office where Henderson worked said she doesn't know where he is and had "no comment" on the matter.
