OPP spent $56M for security at G8 and G20, say figures

The Ontario Provincial Police spent at least $56 million for security at the G8 and G20 summits, including $1.4 million on gas masks, $24,000 for bug jackets, $272,000 for portable toilets and nearly $9 million on telecom hardware.

OPP officers made $25.3 million in salary, including $15.4 million in overtime, according to the partial accounting.


OPP employee expenses for meals, travel and mileage added another $991,000 to the bill for the two summits.
