Ottawa deciding on city projects

Whether they fit the federal government’s criteria for “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects or not, the City of Ottawa is getting its list ready.

Tuesday, city staff released a list of $478 million in planned projects that could be eligible for the $5 billion of extra funding announced in the proposed federal budget.

If that money were allocated on a per capita basis, city staff estimate Ottawa would receive around $270 million.

The only problem is, there is no set allocation basis and city staff don’t know what exactly the criteria will be for determining which projects get funding.

“This is a good listing of projects that we think would meet the eligibility criteria that you can pick from as soon as we know more,” said city manager Kent Kirkpatrick.

Projects may still be added or deleted from the list before the federal and provincial governments work out the details for determining the process for allocating funding.
