Ottawa fits the bill for horror production

With a budget between $8-10 million, The House at the End of the Street is one of the biggest film productions ever done in Ottawa.

Before the horror film started shooting around Metcalfe and Carp — standing in for small-town Pennsylvania — executive producer Sonny Mullhi admitted there was some apprehension about whether Ottawa’s film industry could handle such a large production.

“They’ve done a great job, actually. We’ve been really impressed,” Mullhi said after three months in town working on the film.

The majority of the production crew is local.

Such a big production created many more challenges and opportunities for production designer Lisa Soper.

“The script is so much bigger and the demand is so much more,” said the Algonquin College graduate. “I’m very, very proud of the fact that my entire crew is local and they are more than capable of giving just as much as anyone in another city could give.”
