An Ottawa native who founded a popular fitness boot camp across Ontario brought the program to his hometown earlier this month.
A personal trainer to Bay Street executives in Toronto, Roger Nahas first saw the need for these camps when he was working at the gym.
“Most people were kind of disillusioned with the gym,” said Nahas.
“Machines aren’t really that appealing, and a lot of people don’t know how to use them.
Getting a personal trainer is good, but it’s very expensive.”
He started the Best Body Bootcamp in Toronto. When he brought the camp to Ottawa earlier this month, the demand was so high that the 32-year-old is planning to expand to seven locations in Ottawa at the end of the month.
With interval and cardio training, resistance work and even games of tag, boot camps, which have enjoyed enormous popularity in Ottawa, allow people to get the best of both worlds — they get to work out under the watchful eye of a personal trainer while enjoying the outdoors during the summer season.
“We spend our days in the office and don’t see the outdoors,” said Nahas.
“If you can combine fresh air with exercise, why not?”
Ottawa is ideal for boot camp, said Nahas.
“The weather is ideal and Ottawa has beautiful parks. And we have a health-conscious mentality,” he said.
