Ottawa illusionist wants to mess with your mind

Jaymes White likes to make people think he is a mind reader, but really he is a mind manipulator.

Born and raised in Ottawa, White has been fascinated with magic and illusions since watching a magician perform at his seventh birthday party.

He went on to study psychology at Carleton University and has performed shows about how illusions can easily trick people – even the skeptics.

“It’s actually easier for me if you are a skeptic,” White said.

White will be performing his The Art of Mind Reading on Display show at the Ukrainian banquet hall on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

“I’m going to try to connect people in the audience,” said White.

“I’ll focus on a couple, like a dating couple, to show a connection between them that they didn’t know they had.”

When White isn’t playing with people’s minds, he reads books on psychology in order to improve his craft. He also weaves hypnosis into his shows and asks participants to do certain things with their permission.

“The last show I did I used hypnosis and I stuck a needle into a man’s arm, and he didn’t notice anything.”
