Ottawa Mission’s monster Easter dinner

More than 2,500 bellies will be filled this Easter thanks to the Ottawa Mission.

With a grocery list containing 2,300 pounds of prime rib, 2,500 baked potatoes, 800 pounds of vegetables, 300 pies and more, everyone is sure to get an Easter dinner April 13.

“It takes a lot of volunteers and about two full weeks to prepare,” said Ric Watson, food services manager for the Ottawa Mission. “Easter is our biggest meal of the year.”

Thanks to donations and corporate sponsors, the dinners are always a success.

“The companies we work with have certainly stepped up to the plate,” said Watson, who also said without the cash donations, a dinner of such calibre would not be possible.

Volunteers will start serving at 11:30 a.m. on Easter Monday and work until 5 p.m.

“There isn’t any challenge we can’t meet,” said Watson. “We plan not to turn anybody away. Everyone will have prime rib on their plate.”
