The federal and provincial governments are investing a total of $3.9 million for farmers and agriculture as part of the Innovation Fund.

A provincial news release yesterday said the three-category fund would support research, innovations in marketing, developing new products and on-farm technology that boosts competitiveness.

“Putting farmers first means using our resources and knowledge t help them find innovative ways to increase farm profits,” Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Gerry Ritz said in the release. “I am proud that we are working with all levels of government to deliver this innovation fund to Nova Scotia farmers.”

The fund is part of Growing Forward, a new five-year 60/40 federal- provincial initiative to help Canada’s agriculture industry.
