Ottawa’s fault for trusting O’Brien

Re: “Time to deep-six ‘Zero Means Zero’” Letter, Jan. 9 Metro

Obviously, the term ‘Zero Means Zero’ needs to be retired. But the problem also lies with the residents of Ottawa, who actually believed in the campaign of Mayor Larry O’Brien and voted for him. From the start, inflation every year makes ‘Zero Means Zero’ quasi impossible, and O’Brien’s promise to increase police protection also guaranteed a hike. Nonetheless, residents voted for him and now they are complaining of a tax hike. It was obvious that there would be a hike but residents voted for him and now they are learning from their mistakes.
