Ottawans show support for troops

Support for the Canadian Forces is alive and well in Ottawa. For proof of that, one only needs to attend the Army Run on Sunday or Friday’s Red Rally at city hall, said run director Maj. Luc Frenette.

With 13,500 people registered as of Thursday afternoon, the event is close to reaching capacity at 97 per cent for the half-marathon and 82 per cent for the five-kilometre run, said Frenette.

“People are telling us that they’re coming to the run to support us,” he said. “We wouldn’t be able to do it without their support.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear red to noon’s Red Rally to show support for the men and women serving in the Canadian Forces.

A moment people won’t want to miss is the advance start for the injured soldiers on Sunday.

“It’s very emotional and their courage is amazing,” said Frenette.
