After already sinking more than $4 million into the project, Madonna’s plans for a school in Malawi have been scrapped, according to the New York Times.
"A thoughtful decision has been made to discontinue plans for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, as it was originally conceived," a spokesman tells the newspaper. Madonna and her manager, along with a newly formed “caretaker board,” have replaced the foundation's board of directors after auditors reported “outlandish” wastes of money, including spending foundation funds on cars, golf memberships and a chauffeur for the school's director.
