A property owner who wants to demolish the brewery buildings in Inglewood held a tour on Wednesday.
Ron Mathison is hoping to use the opportunity to bring public awareness of the condition the buildings are in. Mathison has applied to demolish the original 1892 brew house and boiler room, as well as some storage cellars that are all either obscured from public view or encased in plaster or sheet metal.
The Alberta government has stalled Mathison’s plans by ordering a historic impact assessment, which could find the buildings too important to be demolished.
“The province has said if you want to move forward with demolition first you have to give us a report on the historic resource of this site,” said Ald. Joe Ceci, who was among those given a private tour of the building.
