Ottawa will seem a little rosier this week, thanks to an awareness campaign to launch the 2009 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

Acting mayor Doug Thomson will declare this week Paint Canada Pink Week in Ottawa at 9:30 a.m. Monday with a flag-raising ceremony at city hall.

Through next Sunday, businesses throughout Ottawa, Vanier, Manotick and Kanata will be turning their storefronts pink and displaying breast cancer fundraising and awareness materials.

Paint Canada Pink Week is celebrated across Canada to help raise awareness about the CIBC Run for the Cure, which is held in 56 communities across Canada on Oct. 4. In 2008, the run raised $28.5 million to fund breast cancer research, awareness and education projects.
