Two massive sinkholes on a stretch of Finch Avenue are forcing the diversion of traffic.
Heavy rainfall over the weekend, including 37 millimetres of rain falling during a two-hour period yesterday, created a massive sinkhole on a stretch of Finch between Dufferin Street and Wilmington Drive.
The sinkhole, which was approximately five metres wide, was approximately 14 metres deep — about as tall as a lowrise apartment building.
A day later, a second sinkhole began forming east of the original, said city officials.
The second sinkhole, also is about three metres deep. Crews have been on the scene since Friday, however, the repairs are expected to continue throughout the week.
