Toronto’s Pan Am bid team is wooing delegates in Guadalajara, Mexico, with iconic Canadian food items, from Timbit-like mini-donuts to red and white ice cream topped with a Smartie stamped with a 2015 logo.
“All these little things are part of the creativity you bring to the bid process,” said bid chair David Peterson, as he waited yesterday to talk to delegates from the 42-member Pan American Sports Organization.
Two Mounties in formal red serge were on hand, happy to have their photos taken with delegates. Premier Dalton McGuinty, Mayor David Miller and Gary Lunn, federal minister of sport, will also be in town to lobby for Toronto’s bid. Each city will have an hour to make its final pitch Friday.
